So, my journey to Dearborn, Michigan began at 10:00am Thursday morning. I left my home in Spartanburg, S.C. and traveled to Knoxville, Tennessee…where I would hitch a ride with John (archiefanatic) for the remainder of the trip. The drive from Spartanburg to Knoxville was 3 hours, so I just listened to a CD of all of David’s AI performances that violet4ever had given to me!!
Once in Knoxville, John and I found a place to park my car and I put all of my bags into John’s. As I was retrieving the gift I had brought along for David, John’s eyes looked like they were going to pop out of his head…LOL! He said “Is that it”??? I was like…yeah, it is…LOL!! John couldn’t get over how big the box was and I kept explaining that the gift itself was not that big!! So, we decided to grab a bite to eat at Ruby Tuesday’s before heading out on the road to Cincinnati, where we were going to pick up Dominic.
While driving, I think John and I became delirious. We were laughing about anything and everything along the highway. We had begun to laugh at the names of some of the roads. One, for example, was called Big Bone Lick road…LOL! So, while we were having our laughs at the names of the roads, John and I decided to pull a prank on Dominic. I texted Dominic and told him that my husband had just called to tell me that I had left one of the tickets lying out on the counter at home and since he was the only one who had not paid for his ticket yet, I guess he couldn’t go. Dominic texted me back and said “OMG…Are you serious”?? So, I texted back and told Dominic that I was really sorry and I hoped he was okay…LOL! Then, I texted him and asked if it would be okay if John and I stopped by his house to use his bathroom since we were coming that way…LOL!! Dominic texted me back and said “Ummm…I don’t have power, but could you stop by and pick up David’s gifts”?? So, I texted back and told Dominic that since he didn’t have power, we would just skip his house and that maybe he should overnight his gifts to David…LOL! It was all really funny, actually. John and I were dying laughing at this point and I would have given anything to have seen the look on Dominic’s face when I asked if we could stop by and use his bathroom! Anyway, I finally texted him back and told him that he had just been punked…haha! Dominic was such a great sport about the whole thing!
So, we get to Dominic’s house. As he is putting his bags into John’s trunk, he spots the big white package I had brought along for David. Of course John and Dominic had a good laugh at the size of the package…haha! John said…”OMG…David will have to pay to carry that onboard his flight”!! When he said that, it reminded me that David was not on the tour buses anymore…he was actually flying in an airplane! So, I asked John why he did not remind me of this when I bought the gift. John exclaimed “I didn’t know it was going to be the size of a door”!! So, this is what prompted the two day joke about my gift!
We got to the hotel around 10:30pm, where I finally got to meet Janey. Janey was taking Kristi’s place since Kristi had been hospitalized at the last minute with pneumonia and couldn’t go. Janey had flown in from California (next time I am flying, too). Janey and I talked a little in the hotel room…getting to know each other a little bit and then she, John, Dominic, and I all went to grab something to eat. We talked about David, of course, and had ourselves a lovely time. Once we were back in our hotel room, I logged onto my laptop so I could check in with everyone and Janey and I chatted with a few of the angels in the chat room at Archuleta Avenue! Janey and I were very excited about what would be transpiring the next day, so I don’t think either of us could sleep.
On Friday morning, the four of us left the hotel and went to the venue. Upon arrival, we met Tracey. Tracey filled us in on the NO GIFTS policy the venue was enforcing, which meant that I could not give David his gift. I was pretty bummed. When I gave him the compass necklace, I was not there to see him open it, so I had really wanted to be there when he opened this one! So, anyway…we continued meeting other angels from Rickey’s….Patty, Erica, and FunnyGirl and we decided to make our way into the venue. I had also been texting a girl from Loving Archie, who I was very anxious to meet. So, I was on the lookout for her as well. Once we were inside the door, I was told that I would not be able to go inside. Freo had not arrived yet and I had her ticket. I asked if I could just bring it back out to her when she arrived and they informed me that once I was inside, I was not allowed to leave and re-enter the building. So, I had to stand outside in the lobby and wait on Freo to arrive. After about 30 minutes, I called Freo and she was lost. She had a really hard time finding the venue. I must admit, I had started to panic and get a little frustrated because I missed lunch and I was afraid that I would miss the concert, too. But, luckily…Freo made it!! She and I just made a dash for the line and when they opened the doors, we ran to our seats. We were really lucky to have gotten as close as we did. I felt really bad for Freo…bless her heart. She looked like she was going to cry at any moment…and I felt horrible that I had been irritated with her. I just loved her…she was a wonderful lady and I would have loved to have spent more time with her! I finally met Brittney from Loving Archie and she was absolutely beautiful! I loved talking to her while waiting in the line. Her smile was so infectious!
So, the concert was PERFECTION!! David sang ‘Angels’ and it was breathtaking, as always. I don’t think I will ever tire of hearing him sing that song…EVER!! Then, David starts to talk to us about the next song he would be performing and I think we all knew what it was going to be before he announced it. The crowd went crazy and I couldn’t believe I was sitting there, in Michigan, listening to David sing his first single live for the very first time!! OMG!! How lucky was I??? David did a wonderful job, although it was quite obvious that he was nervous. I was video taping the performance when half way through, my cell phone rang. It was Kristi…LOL. I had called her right before David’s set so that she could listen to him sing. I felt really bad that she was in the hospital and would not be able to listen to Rickey’s live cell cast…and since she was not able to attend in person…I thought it would be a nice thing to do for her! So, when my phone rang…it was apparently because it had hung up on Kristi at some point during the song and she, of course, called back…LOL! When the phone rang, it scared me so bad, I dropped my camera. I tried to get the phone turned off and hold the camera steady, too…but, I never could get the camera back into focus…so, I just shut it off. I was really disappointed that I was unable to get the whole ‘Crush’ performance, but…the bright side is this: Kristi called on my phone that does not have the ‘Crush’ ringtone! Can you imagine how awkward it would have been if she had called on the phone that does have the ‘Crush’ ringtone???
When David was talking to us about his last song, Dominic guessed immediately that it was going to be ‘Imagine’. You can even hear him whispering it to me in my ‘Imagine’ video! That performance was absolutely the best I have every witnessed. The feeling in that room on Friday was unlike anything I have every experienced. It was simply magical. David sings that song with so much passion and feeling and it pierces the heart. I was shaking so badly, I’m surprised that my video turned out as good as it did. I was so excited about my video, I couldn’t wait to get back to the hotel and upload it for everyone to see!
After the show was over, David came back out to sign autographs. I waited patiently in line while others were pushing and shoving. I just stood and watched people as they would shove the pictures at David. He never complained or showed any sense of discouragement. He just smiled that beautiful smile and scribbled away. After the crowd cleared out, I made my way up to the stage and managed to hand David the picture of him from his video shoot where he is standing with his guitar. I showed him the necklace in the photo and told him I was the one who had given it to him. He smiled at me and said “Really? Wow…that’s cool”!! He signed the picture and I made room for those behind me. I then walked over to where Jeff was and got in line to speak to him. I waited in line for about 15 minutes and just as I was about to speak to Jeff, another angel (I won’t name names) came over and interrupted me. She was very rude and obnoxious and it floored me that someone could be like that. I guess it bothers me more because I am quite and more reserved and I try to put others before myself. This person, however, was all about herself…and that was very clear to me and a few others who witnessed it her behavior. So, anyway…I eventually had a chance to talk to Jeff and explain to him that I had brought David a gift but was not allowed to bring it inside. Jeff noted that there were several others who had had the same problem. He spoke with Patty and decided that he would come out to the parking lot and meet her to get all of the gifts. I thought that was wonderful of him to do. He is such a kind, gentle man. He goes above and beyond for David’s fans and he truly cares about making you feel special.
I noticed that David was now taking photos, so Dominic and I went over and waited in line. David recognized Dominic, so we walked up to him and I took this opportunity to tell David about my gift. It was so loud in there that I don’t think David understood what I was saying. He just looked at me and smiled ever so sweetly! I asked for a photo and he said “Sure”! I looked like crap, but David is handsome…as always! I walked away knowing that I had accomplished what I had driven 13 hours to do. I had finally got that photo with David!! I was on cloud 9!! Once we were all out in the parking lot, Jeff came outside to pick up all of the gifts. I showed him mine and asked if he thought it would be better if I shipped it…since they were on an airplane. He thought that would be a great idea and so he gave me his mailing address and told me to send it to David at home! Like I said earlier, I was somewhat disappointed that I would not be there to see David open his gift, but all in all…the day was incredible! I will never forget the experience or the people I met that day! And now, to answer the burning question about what my door sized gift was:
As many of you know, I gave David the compass necklace he wore in his video. It meant so much to me that he wore it…whether it was just a coincidence or not. It still meant the world to me. I wanted to give him something this time that was unlike all the other gifts he was receiving. I knew he had more than enough t-shirts and necklaces, so that was out of the question. So, this time I decided to do something more sentimental.
I named a star after David! With the naming of the star, he was given a gold framed certificate and a chart that showed the coordinates of his star and his star is circled in gold. On the certificate, I had them add a personal message from me that read:
“A Star for a Star! May you always shine as brightly as you do today!”
So, anyway…the frame was rather larger than I had expected…but it was quite beautiful. Here is a link so that you can see it:
http://s50.photobucket.com/albums/f322/lad yvette826/?action=view¤t=DavidStar1A.jpg
I really hope that when it arrives at David’s house, he will love it. He is certainly our star and he shines so brightly. I wanted him to know that!
And…that is my story! Sorry it’s so long….but, thank you for reading it!
My Husband and I began our 2 hour+ roadtrip to Evansville on Wednesday night. I was going to make sure we had an early rise and plant ourselves in an ideal spot to meet the Idols (one David Archuleta in particular). We made it to the hotel without incident armed with video, audio, and photo equipment. Plenty of extra batteries.
On Thursday morning we made the 3 mile drive to Roberts Stadium, arriving at 9:00a.m. A family was already there sitting in the parking lot when we arrived. After introductions and learning they were a mom, daughter, and 3 granddaughters from Nashville, TN., we decided to form a group and went to the front of the barricades to begin our wait for the Idols' arrival. This was a good plan since the stadium would not allow the use of the bathroom facilities. Turns could be taken saving places and watching over personal articles during bathroom drives. The day began as an overcast morning but the raindrops soon started to fall. No, this couldn't be happening! Luckily, no serious rain occurred throughout the day and the humidity wasn't too bad.
If anyone is familiar with Robert's Stadium, they are aware it is a small venue. When chosing which concert to attend, the size is what made our decision to head to Evansville. Turned out to be a good decision. Approximately 200 people showed up to meet the buses, allowing plenty of space along the barricades for a single file line.
The buses transporting the Idols arrived at 1:30. After about 15 minutes David Archuleta was the first to come out to loud screams in the crowd. Darn, he started at the opposite end. atience!!! Soon to follow was David Cook, also to loud screams. A little later Kristy appeared and started at our end. Michael, Jason, Chikezie, and Carly soon followed. Brooke arrived a little later but spent quality time with all the supporters. No sign of Syesha or Ramiele. Each idol took their time filtering down the line signing autographs and allowing photos. Not to make it too long talking of each Idol, we have to say everyone of them were very personable and polite. Even though David A. had press, he took the time to speak with everyone. For anyone who is a doubter, he is a very genuinely sincere and caring person. He will definitely make a fine role model. Watching him, it could be seen in his eyes and expressions. He truly cared about the fans who were there to support him. When he was called to press, he became worried about the gifts fans had given him and that they wouldn't be lost. About 2 hours were spent meeting the fans by the Idols who had came out. It didn't appear that anyone was ignored. After many pictures of David, a couple of autographs including signing my Archey's Angels t-shirt, David had completed his way down the line and headed for his press interview. After finishing aquiring the other Idols' signatures and pictures there was enough time for a quick bite to eat and freshen up before the concert. Can't wait!
Hubby's turn to tell of the concert:
You could feel the excitement in the air as we waited for the doors to open! Everyone was waiting in anticipation. The one thing that I found a bit interesting was the number of people who have followed the tour throughout its run. We spoke with a couple of girls who, after the Tulsa concert, will have attended 10 shows. WOW!
The gates opened promptly at 6 p.m. and we were about 10th in line to get through the turnstile. A quick trip to the vendor area to get a souvenir program and David A.'s 8x10 picture and we were on our way to our seats. Luck was with us because the ramp to our section was right by the vendor section. If you have never been to Roberts Stadium there is not a bad seat in the house. I seemed to remember that from a fuzzy Van Halen concert I attended in my college years there. Our seats were perfect.
Time for the concert. In an effort to retrieve video from the concert I had purchased a small and inexpensive digital video camera and 4 gigs of memory. It was cheap enough that if confiscated, no big loss. More on that later. Chikezie opened the show. WOW! This guy has really improved. I won't take a huge amount of time on the other Idols but they all did good in their own right and all show tremendous improvement. So far so good, a group number and then intermission. Please make it go quick! Let's get to the good part! The Guitar Hero playoff was kinda cute and they did do an air Guitar Hero playoff with 2 kids from the audience and gave them prizes. Finally, time to start!
Jason, Brooke, and Syesha perform admirably. As I said before, lots of growth, both vocally and maturity. The crowd had been really receptive to all of the Idols thus far but when the fanfare started and the giant number 2 came up on the screens, the noise level from the crowd went into overdrive. The stage filled with fog and up out of the fog singing "Angels" rises David Archuleta. I did not think that the crowd could get louder but they proved me wrong by doubling their noise. It did not last long and David belted out Angels like the professional he is. You have to love the purity and strength of his voice. Without much further ado he went right into Apologize. Our sons believe that David sings this one better than One Republic. Stand By Me was awesome that is all one can say. He finished the set with When you Say you Love Me explaining the meaning the song has for him before singing it. All in all I was quite pleased with this performance. I have read before that to really hear David sing you must hear it live. I tend to agree wholeheartedly! The atmosphere was electric and his voice pure and strong. I had also read reports of David being ill and having some technical difficulties at some of the past venues. If that be the case, Ladies and Gentlemen: David is better than ever now!
David Cook came out and did a good job with his set, but being pretty much biased, he did not outdo Archey!
The final group number was pleasant. While they were singing I found myself wondering what they would feel like in Tulsa knowing it was the last show and the last song. I imagine it will probably be rough on them all because you could feel and see a certain comraderie amongst them.
Off to the video camera. I recorded the first song of every Idol and all of David A. We arrived back home at about 2 a.m. so I waited until this morning to download the video and watch it. To my instant chagrin I found out once again that you get what you pay for. The video sucked! No since sugar-coating it. The goal was good video and expendability. Not gonna happen. My wife took the camera back today and returned it. If I had known security and monitoring was going to be so lax, I would have gotten a better one. Apologies to the video hounds out there. My wife did take my Sony digital audio recorder and managed to get the full audio of David's performance and we'll upload it later. I did find videos (not mine) of the Evansville performance and I will upload those as well.
Anyway, a great show altogether and I do sincerely hope that all of the Idols have great success. I am still completely awe-struck by what a great performer our David is. The best thing is it can only get better! I have a feeling we personally met with greatness here at the American Idol concert in Evansville.
So apparently, one road trip, one Idol concert, and one
sweating-and-standing-in-in-extreme-heat episode is not enough for
yours truly, so I decided to take my measly $600 "gift" from El
Presidente and do it all over again.
Originally, since my mommy
is in Alaska, I was going to force my partner Dan to chauffeur my
daughter Meg and I to Evansville, Indiana (4 hours away), where he
could sulk and be antisocial while Meg and I met the Idols again.
Thankfully, my dear friend Mandy saved us all from that particular fate
when she volunteered to come along. Yay- girl's trip!!
Now,
those who know me well know that I hate to drive. I am very bad at it.
I tend to get road ragey and hit various stationary objects. Now I was
literally thrust into the driver's seat. I seriously had doubts about
whether or not we would make it to Evansville.
Nevertheless, I
took my Aveo by the steering wheel and off we went, listening to my
"Girl's Night Mix" cd and Archie's "Crush" single on repeat, much to
Megan's chagrin.
The trip to Evansville was fairly uneventful. We arrived at the Baymont Inn no worse for wear.
This
morning, we set out for Roberts Stadium to meet our Idols. I was much
wiser this time- I had strategized for this meeting like a general
prepares for battle. I armed myself with bottled water, suntan lotion,
spearmint gum (for minty breath), and a card for each Idol. I had hit
up the Cardologist a couple of weeks ago for some humorous cards in
which I put pictures from the St. Louis concert, so they could have
them for a scrapbook or sell them to the Enquirer or whatever.
We
were among the first to arrive at the stadium. In all my planning I had
forgotten chairs, so Mandy sportingly ran down to Walmart to get some.
It was sprinkling on and off, but for the most part it stayed gray and
humid. Thankfully I had decided to wear my hair in it's natural, curly
beastlike state.
I was sweating like crazy so I changed my clothes in the parking lot. Great planning, General Michele.
We
met up with some awesome fellow Idolators- some girls throwing a
birthday party for Chikezie and handing out beads; a couple of ladies
sitting next to us, one named Michele (awesome name!); and a girl named
Carrie who was there by herself since her friends (foolishly) didn't
want to go.
We hung out for about 2 and a half hours. It went very quickly though! And then came the buses!
First
out was David Archuleta. He looked almost ethereal in a turquoise
shirt. He is perfection. Sorry, I will stop now. Unfortunately, he
started at the end of the line, and we were closer to the beginning.
Next was David Cook, sporting a Kansas City Chiefs hat. He also started at the end. I started getting impatient and whiny.
Then
there was... Kristy Lee Cook! KLC is always nice and polite to us fans,
but I am sure it's hard to be there when most of us are drooling over
the men. She started at our end and was my first autograph and picture
of the day!
Then came... Castro! A bunch of his fans were
there as usual- some of them were actually toting his head on a stick.
Not his actual head, sorry. I should clarify that. I like Jason- he's
not my favorite, but I do like him a lot. He always looks good. His
hair is awesome, and he has the bluest eyes and the whitest teeth. He
was wearing a white shirt and denim cutoffs- and no shoes! He looked
really, really good. He is always very nice and down to earth too. He
signed me an autograph and took pictures with all of us.
Then...
Michael Johns!!! He looked hot. Woo! And he started at our side! As he
was walking up, he saw Megan and said to her "Aww!" about her Puppy
Johns sign and then "Nice to see you again!" He recognized her from St.
Louis! Meg and I about DIED!
Then... calamity! Archie and
Michael Johns got to us at the same time. Actually, Archie got there
first. He is so awesome. First I said, "This little girl is SO jealous
of you! You have to win her over!" as I pointed to Meg. He said
"Really? Why?" And I said "Oh, she thinks I love you more than her,
which is ridiculous." And I think he like laughed and nodded. It's hard
to remember! I told him she had just started piano lessons and he
seemed really interested in that. Then my mouth took over. I showed him
my framed picture of the 2 of us from St. Louis. He signed it. I said,
"I have this sitting on my desk at work." and he said "Really? Where
from?" and I thought he meant where do I work, so I said "A newspaper."
and he said "This was at a newspaper?" and I said "No, I work at a
newspaper; this picture is from my desk there." and he said "Where was
it taken?" and I said "OH! St. Louis! I thought you meant where did I
work?"
Yeah, I'm an idiot. And I sure felt like one. We were
like 2 people who were fluent in the language of Fluster. It was
ridiculous. I am cringing just writing about it!!!
THEN- to
further things, Michael Johns walked up during all this and proceeded
to skip us! As I was getting my picture taken (again) with Archie, I
yelled "Michael Johns, you get back here!!!" Like I was his mother or
something. Sheesh.
He yells back (jokingly) "Hey! You skipped
me!" but he came back over. He talked to Meg about how he remembered
her from St. Louis. "In the parking garage. I hopped up on the cement
block for her." Incredible!
So I said to him, "Can I have my
picture with you? I did my hair and everything!" and he says, "You did?
In this humidity?" He is a riot.
Not too long after that, Cook
got to us. I made him read my sign, which said "Gimme Cookie!" and had
a picture of Cookie Monster on it. I asked him to sign my pics of him
from St. Louis, one of which I had tried to photoshop and make it look
like a comic. He said "What happened to this one- did you spill
something on it?" and I said "You know? I was trying to be all artsy
and it obviously didn't work." He laughed. In his pictures with Meg and
me, he is making some crazy faces. If I had known he was doing that, I
would have made one back at him instead of smiling like a mindless
idiot.
I got really excited because I saw Carly, and she was the
one I missed in St. Louis. She apparently had some friends there who
gave her a birthday party, since her birthday is tomorrow (well, now
today.) She spent a lot of time with them, and by the time she got to
us, I asked her for a picture and she said "I'm not doing pictures. I
have to go do press. I am the only one doing press today." I was kind
of stung by that. She was a little, well, grouchy. But what made me mad
was then she went down to her friends again for about 20 more minutes.
Whatever. When she walked back by, Mandy said to her "Thanks for taking
time (to sign us autographs) Carly" and Carly just ignored her! And I
know she heard her.
Addendum: I don't mean to imply that Carly is not a nice person. I
think she was frustrated because her friends were there and she
couldn't spend time with them because she had to go do press. I mean,
she could have been nicer, but she was probably just in a bad mood.
It's understandable. She's seemed nice in every other instance.
Soapbox time! I think it's absolute BS that
the Idols have to take time away from the fans to do press. We are the
ones spending the money, buying the tickets and souveniers, buying the
cds, calling in votes which gets AI their big advertising revenue...
take time from someone else, but not the fans!!!
Then there
was... Chikezie. I cannot say enough about how Awesome Chikezie is. He
is such a sweetheart. He takes time for everyone- he gave everyone who
handed him something a hug. He actually had to stop after me to go do
press (I thought Carly was the only one doing press?) but HE came BACK
after press and picked right back up with Carrie where he had left off.
HE is truly awesome!
Last but not least was Brooke. She
sounded like she was a little under the weather, but other than that
she was her wonderful self. She talks to everyone and is very personal
and grounded.
Ramiele and Syesha were no shows. I gave their cards to Brooke to take to them.
Concert Time!
Our seats were INCREDIBLE. I guess it pays to buy from a scalper, no matter how much I hate the idea.
The
show was pretty much the same as St. Louis- everyone sounded awesome.
There was a special tribute for 9/11 of one of the band guys playing
his trumpet. It was beautiful.
Michael Johns really went beserk during Please Don't Stop the Music. It was awesome! They did the Mavid! WOOHOO!
My
memory card filled up during Syesha's performance, so I had to hurry up
and delete off all the blurry pics. Mandy let me borrow her memory card
for the final few numbers. I will post what I have probably tomorrow.
We made it back to Springfield in 3 and a half hours, and that included
a severe thunderstorm, complete with what we thought was hail, AND
massive fog. Yeah. I rock!
All in all, all the time, effort,
money, driving, and sweating was worth it. I don't know when I will
ever see an Idol with this much talent. And there will never be another
Archie for me- not ever. I"ll close with what I wrote in his card.
"I
am not a religious person, but hearing your voice is the closest I've
come to being moved on a spiritual level. This season for me wasn't
about who won, it was about the way I feel when I hear you sing. Thank
you for that."
Earlier in the day of the August 25th Dallas concert, I waited at the arena and met a plethora of nice fans, Archies, WordNerds, etc. I met a very nice lady who was also an Archie fan; as some of the Idols came out to meet fans, I asked if she could use her camera to take a picture of me with Cook and Archie when they came around in the case that my older digital camera was losing battery or malfunctioned at the wrong moment. She graciously agreed and I was very thankful, making sure to thank her and reiterate that it was so nice of her to do so. She also took a picture of me and the Welcome sign I made and asked me for my e-mail address for her to send the pictures to me; I was beyond excited and asked her if I could look at the picture of me and Archie real fast on her camera and she let me. I so wish I could find someone else who met and gave her their e-mail, too.
Here's a pic of the sign minus IDOLS! in glitter at the bottom, but most fans who saw it would recognize it from this:
At this point, I still not have received
my photos by e-mail; it totally slipped my mind to get her e-mail, but
I also noticed that she had other e-mail addresses to send photos to. I
truly want to give her the benefit of the doubt because she really did
seem like a genuinely nice person that wanted to help out a fellow fan,
but I am a bit desperate at this point; I have reasoned in my mind why
she would not send me the photos and nothing rational comes out of
it...I mean she even let me see the photo, what would she do with a
photo of us, ya know? Perhaps, she's been having problems uploading the
pictures, which is fine...but you'd think she would maybe e-mail me
just to update me. I've also thought about the worse case scenario and
hope she is okay and that nothing happened to her, health-wise.
I don't want to be dramatic and sound selfish, but I'm almost desperate
to find her and retrieve my pictures hopefully; I do know there were a
couple of ladies in David shirts that were right next to us, so perhaps
they would remember her, as well. In any case, for the slight chance that someone who met her will see this, she was wearing a black outfit with shorts and a short-sleeve top that had pink flowers.
At the end of the day, I
know it is not a big deal that I do not have the picture with David and
there is so much more going on in the world that is truly a desperate
need calling for desperate measures, but it was moment I was so
grateful for and would love to have back as a memory. I would love for
this to blow over, so I am just hoping and praying that everything
works out; it's like a dream come true with a big token of it missing...I've mentioned it to a few fans on a David fansite and
they've been nothing but nice and reminded me that the image of meeting
Archie in my head means so much more than a picture. That is definitely
true, but I won't lie that I would like my picture.
All in all, I really was truly grateful and thankful for the experience and the opportunity to meet David, so I know I'll always have that memory. :)
Cleveland Ohio - September 4, 2008 - Wolstein Center
Well, where to begin? My report isn't like others, I can say that much. I unfortunatly did not get to meet David or any of the other Idols. My parents had to work and I had school. They are so inconveniant sometimes! Anyways..
I woke up all excited. I wasn't sure how I could focus all day at school, with thoughts of the night coming up very soon running through my head, but somehow, I managed to get my mind off of it. Surprising, right!? I called my mom as soon as I got home. I was in the driveway and whipped out my phone. It was like, 2:50. I had already basically missed the meeting part, and I was really sad ):
So I already knew my report would be nothing like the others. Everyone else got to basically meet them, and here, I didn't. But hey, I got to see them right? Thats all I can ask for. Seeing and hearing David sing using his beautiful voice is all I need in life.
My parents got home and I was getting all ready. Two pairs of Binoculars, Two Cameras, and our video Camera. I was really nervous we wouldn't get the camera in, and all this other stuff about how we were going to be late when we totally weren't. I was so excited and nervous at the same time. Very jumpy I might add.
When I finally managed to get my parents out of the house, it was 5:15. We hadn't eaten dinner yet and my dad wanted to stop somewhere, but there was no where to stop. By the time we would get downtown, park and eat it would definitely be too late. So we decided to eat at the Wolstein Center.
We arrived around 5:50. I was so excited I was powerwalking all the way there, and while doing that, made sure my mom had everything, and I had everything. I was also worrying about our seats. We were sitting in the back section, row H (3). When we got in we did those nifty picture things. I got one in front of the cutout of the top 10. I wanted to get close to David, so I covered up Brooke and Kristy, but the lady told me to move. *Grumble* So yeah, we did that, and then got our food..expensiveee o.O
When we sat down, it was about 6:10. We had 40 minutes until the Idols started. Then we had to wait till the end for David. Torture. Pure torture. Our seats turned out okay. We needed binoculars to see the person's face clearly, but we could see from where we were, and that was good. When the Idols began performing, I was already impatient enough. Chikezie, Ramiele, Michael, Carly etc all went by. It seemed like a lifetime. When Jason was about to come on they took that intermission. Ugh. More Waiting. I was literally counting down the song numbers till David came on. 6..5..4..3..2..1.
When the statium got dark to show the David Archuleta board thing I think I just about hyperventilated, no joke. My heart was beating so fast and so hard, I thought it was gonna burst out of my chest. My breathing became uneven. Call me whatever, But I was so excited to See David, it was unbearable.
The purple lights went on, and then BAM, the smoke started. The piano started, and you saw him pop up from underneath the stage slowly. The first time his voice rang through the statium, the crowd went wild. Screaming erupted. It was AMAZING. My mom was video recording (we got it in, and werent caught!) and I was snapping away pictures with my camera, all the while trying to get comfortable, never taking my eyes off the stage, off of David. When the chorus of the song came on, All my emotions spilled out, and yes, I started to cry. Not hard, and not becuase I wasnt happy. It was becuase I WAS Happy. David was right there, singing, and I was here, watching him, Live. It was too much. I felt embarassed with my mom and dad right there, but I didn't care. I was too happy. So instead, I burried my eyes under the binoculars and watched him sing.
And then the first song was over. As quickly as it had come, It was over. Apologize was on next. The one I Really wanted to see. It was so cool. I wasn't crying anymore, thank god. I was too happy to do anything. I swear I could watch that kid perform all stinken day and NEVER get tired of it. He looked so cute!!
When he was doing that little speech thing, he accidentally did a little burp into the mic. Hardly noticeable, but being the polite kid he was, he said, "Excuse Me". And OMD, I got to hear him do that ADORABLE little laugh of his!! Ahh, I melt everything he does that. And that large smile of his is oh so amazing. Amazing is the only word I can say. Amazing.
I didn't want him to end so soon. But before I knew it, both "Stand by Me" and "When You Say You Love Me" were both done. And he was done. Before he left, he said "Excuse me for that burp" or something. I laughed, it was so cute!! And then the last time I saw him was at the end, when they all came out and did a number together. I squeeled, thankful for one last glimpse of him. I followed him throughout the whole song, "Please Don't Stop the Music". They lined up, did there little thing at the end to thank everyone, and then, they were done.
It was a great night. Thats all I can say. In the end, it didn't matter to me if I want up front, or that I didnt get to meet them, becuase I SAW them. And all of my friends who wanted to go didn't, so I was so thankful for this oppurtunity. I never want these memories to slip my mind. I want to hold them in forever, and never let them go! David Archuleta has officially changed my life forever.

SU2C was largely inspired by the great oncologist/scientist/pediatrician and humanitarian Judah Folkman who died very unexpectedly earlier this year leaving a huge hole in the world of cancer therapy and research. Read the links below; as a human being this guy was a lot like David - just substitute the word music for science and the name “Pavarotti” for “Einstein”. The comments under the Boston article are particularly touching.
One person recounts of Folkman “He was the Einstein of our times…had the eloquence of Martin Luther King and the humility of Gandhi…”

When You Say You Love Me from the OKC concert
This is my video of Stand By Me from the OKC concert.
As you know, David has been known to break into song at random times and I was lucky enough to get a little bit of that on video during the meet & greet. He did it one other time, but I didn't have my camera set to video and it was over to quickly for me to get my camera settings changed. As much as being a showman comes naturally to Cook, singing seems as natural to David as talking. Maybe even more so.
I arrived downtown where the Ford Center is located probably about 1:00 and it took me probably 15 to 20 min of driving around the block to spot where the meet & greet was going to take place and figure out where I was going to park. While I was driving around though, I saw Kristy Lee leaving on the back of a motorcycle going off someplace. I didn’t notice who was driving the motorcycle though because she was on one of those seats that sits up higher than the driver and she just really stood out. She looked absolutely beautiful. Like a movie star or something, she just grabs your attention. When I got to the meet & greet area, there were maybe 100 people there already. I was a little surprised at the number of teens and kids who were there because school has started and it was still during school hours. I guess some people let their kids skip school for it. There was a section barricaded off for fans to stand behind and there were people all along the whole area. The most people though were on the end by the door where the idols would come out, which also just happened to be the area in the shade, so that’s where I went to stand because it was just too hot to stand out in the sun. I met a nice lady and her husband who were Cook fans and another nice lady who had driven down from Wichita who was also a Cook fan. This was her third concert and the first two she had gone to the meet & greet to meet Cook and he didn’t come out at either of those, so she was still trying to get to meet him. Luckily for her, he did come out for this one. David and Kristy Lee came out at 2:00 and Ramiele, Chickeze, Jason and Brooke came out at various times while David was out there. Kristy Lee was only out for about 15 min. Ramiele wasn’t out long either. Chickeze was out longer and Jason was out quite a while too. David was out the longest though. He spends quite a bit of time chatting with the fans, while the others don’t. They pretty much just sign and move on. David was out from 2:00 until 3:00. Just as he was going in Cook came out. He is very outgoing and was being clowning and making funny faces. He is just a natural born entertainer. Some girls gave him 2 hula hoops, with I’m sure, the hope that he and Michael would use them in their Mavid routine, and sure enough, they did. I stayed until about 3:15 and then left. Michael, Carly and Syesha hadn’t come out and since I left I didn’t know if they did, but after the concert I met up again with the lady from Wichita and she said they never did come out. By the time I left the number of people had grown to probably 150 or 200. I guess after school let out a lot more of the kids were able to get there. It was getting hard to get close enough to see the idols who were out there signing. I went home to eat and freshen up for the concert. When I got to the concert, I had 2 tickets because the first ticket I bought was bought on the first day they went on sale. It wasn’t very close and I wasn’t really happy with it. The day before the concert I went online to see if I could get anything better, because I had heard that they released tickets for better seating that hadn’t sold yet. I found one on the floor that was on the 4 th row, but was the fartherest seat from the stage in the row. I went ahead and got it but I kept the first one just in case I didn’t like the floor. I’m pretty short and since floor seating isn’t elevated I wasn’t sure if I would have a problem seeing over the heads in front of me. I decided to try that seat for the first half and if I didn’t like it I would move to my other seat for the second half. The seat turned out to be ok, although I did have some problems seeing when the idols were out on the ramp that extends into the audience. But I decided to move at intermission, because my seat was right next to where security was sitting, and I tried to video one of Michael Johns’ songs and security stopped me. I still can’t figure out how they knew I was videoing and not taking pictures. Since there’s video all over the internet, I think it’s pretty ridiculous that they stop you from doing it. Anyway, I had every intention of videoing some of David’s songs so I moved to my other seat at intermission. I had to sacrifice being close though. I did a video of Please Don’t Stop the Music too, and Cook did a new thing with David when their both down at the end of the ramp that I think left David a little flummoxed. Afterwards, he didn’t quite seem to know which was to turn. You just have to see it. Chickeze started the concert off with a lot of energy. A lot of the idols do things to rev up the crowd, like telling them to get on their feet or throwing things into the audience. David didn’t do anything like that. He doesn’t really need to. There were some others that didn’t, like Brooke and Jason. Cook does a lot of that. I think he spends more time showboating (I don’t mean that in a bad way) with the audience than he does singing. It just seems to come naturally to him to be very outgoing. All the idols are very talented, but some more than others. I’m not going into a critique of each of them. The ones that stood out for me were Michael Johns, Carly and, of course, David. David was amazing. He was coughing a little bit, but it didn’t effect his singing. He got some very loud screams too, but the loudest screams were for Cook. I knew Oklahoma was a Cook town. Everyone I have talked to about American Idol is a Cook fan. And then, he lived in Tulsa for a while too so I guess people feel like they have a connection with him or something. After the concert I went back out to the meet & greet area to see if I could see David again. There was probably well over 1000 people there though. You couldn’t even begin to get close enough to see any of the idols. I stayed for almost an hour and Kristy Lee and Chickeze had come out, but I could only manage to occasionally get a glimpse of the top of their head and their much taller than David, so I knew I wouldn’t be able to see him at all. It was still very hot even that late at night so I decided to come home. The concert was great, but I’m ready for a concert that is all David. I almost forgot to mention that Cook sent the hula hoop he used for the Mavid dance out with a security guard with instructions to give it to a little kid, so he gave it to a little girl about 7 years old. She was just thrilled. I thought that was a nice thing to do.
Hey guys I am new to this site and I hope that everyone is as big of fans of David Archuleta As I am and I personaly think that he should have won American Idol does anyone else think so to
Okay, so my summer has been going amazing. Basically the last fun thing I was going to do was the Jonas Brothers Concert which was last night. But now, I get to look forward to the Idols Concert!! I'm definitely not close for this one, so I only hope my Archey Report is good. But either way, I'm excited to be going and I will try my best to get some good pictures, although I don't know if I will be able to. And anyone know where to catch the fanblast people!? (:
So me and my sister got to the concert site at about 11:45 am. we found out where the buses were parking, but when we got to the bus area we were told tha they were setting up an area for the Idols to come out and sign stuff from 2-4 pm at the front of the forum, so we headed back to the front. we were in the front row, and actually made cool friends with some David Cook fans that were standing next to us. It totally rained and and i got a sunburn, but it was worth it. at about 12:30 pm the first Idols came out. Jason, David A, Syesha, Ramiele, and Kristy. David got to us first, because he crossed over and started on the far side. he seemed to be in a huge hurry, and was only signing stuff and accepting gifts, he didnt have time to take pics with us :( but he was still really sweet! then Ramiele and Syesha came by back to back, they both also seemed in a hurry, although not quite as much as David. They didnt stop for many pics either though. Archie had already gone inside by time they passed us, and those two followed pretty quickly. Im guessing this is because those three have family in this area that was visiting. Next to reach us was Kristy Lee Cook. she was really nice, and totally laid back. i really liked her in person. it was funny to watch her run away from the rain though! she actually went inside, then came BACK out and signed some more stuff and took more pics. when she went in Jason was the only one left outside, and i must say he spent TONS of time with all his fans, he was out there the longest i think. he was quite entertaining actually, and he took pics with EVERYONE! he even held their cameras for them and took the pictures himself! it was cool. As Jason was finishing up, David C came out, and to every one's surprise he had Lindsey Rose with him (the little girl who he wore the bracelet for all season). It was really sweet to see her get to take pics with fans and sign autographs :) David C took a lot of time with all his fans too, cutting up, taking the time to look in the bags ppl gave him, taking pics (one with a sharpie up his nose!) and dancing to Thriller! lol he was cool. He took so much time the security told him he couldnt stop for any more pics! but he still gave lot of hugs, and he even kissed the girl next to me on he cheek! she was so excited, it was cute. So the last person out was Brooke. She also took lots of time with her fans, and i have to say she is SO PRETTY in person!!!! and shes really nice. she told us that they werent gonna be signing anything at the buses that night after the concert cuz they had to leave immediately :( so no chance to get a pic with Archie or Carly's autograph... Carly,Michael, and Chikezie never came out. i was a lil sad, but nothing could dampen the fact that i met ARCHIE!!!! :)
So in the concert they started with some cheesy "pump up the crowd stuff" then finally brought out the idols, one by one count down style. the first performance to REALLY catch the crowd was Michael! it was GREAT! especially his last song "Dream On" . Kristy was also considerably better in person. Carly is AMAZING!!!!! i always thought she should have been top 3. although i didnt much dig her rendition of Evanescence, i LOVED her other two songs, she just kept getting better and better! and when they did the first group number with the bottom 6, Carly and Michael sang a duet part of it that was breath taking! i was so happy they got to sing together!!!! so then intermission blah blah blah more pump up the crowd... and then they bring out Jason... and the crowd EXPLODED!!!!! u hadnt heard cheering til u heard the crowd for Jason! intense. i didnt really like him singing Crazy ( i like david's version ALOT more), but his other two songs were really good! Syesha was next, and to be honest, she was alot more friendly on stage then at the signing... i liked her second song... but the rest didnt really do it for me. i was too excited that David was coming next!!!! i actually taped ALL of archie's performances, although i had a malfunction and may have lost the last one :( so he came up through the floor on the piano and the crowd went CRAZY!!!!!!!! it was nuts! he was everything i'd hoped for! ESPECIALLY the last song. i just sat there and was amazed the whole time! it was really amazing!!! (and now my thraot is sore from screaming my head off). Finally David C came out and again th crowd exploded!!! he was really good, better than on the show in my opinion! and he earned MEGA bonus points when he dedicated the song Hero to Lindsey Rose and told her he owed being the american idol to her!!!! :) he was REALLY funny too. but im afraid he has a slight cold cuz he drink something at the end of the first song and as he was throwing it off the stage he said it was cold medicine. so the group song was cheesy as always, and i laughed when they had archie singing about acting naughty, but it was entertaining. i loved the part when the two davids went on the island that sticks out from the stage and DC like got on his knees, and Archie was jumping up and down pointing at him! then he tried to help DC up but david wouldnt get up! lol. and that's the show!
I didn’t get home from the Charlotte show until 3:00am because I got lost in Charlotte…LOL. I somehow kept coming back to the same location, no matter how many different roads I took. It was very strange…haha! The boys were asleep in the back seat, so they were not much help and I had dropped my new IPhone and broke it when I saw David wearing my necklace…so, I couldn’t use the built-in GPS ! At one point, I passed the AI buses as I was circling around the city…LOL! They were heading down the road away from the venue!! If all the streets hadn’t been one way, I could have possibly gotten turned around and followed them out of there! But, by the time I got turned around, they were out of sight….dang it! Anyway, I got home and finally crawled into bed at 4:00am. I was back up at 7:00am to start my day for the Duluth concert.
I arrived in Duluth around 11:30 and met up with John (archiefanatic) and Valerie(tabbycat221). They both are such lovely people and I had a great time getting to know each of them. John was sooooo much fun and he and I had a lot of good laughs throughout the day and during the concert! When I arrived, there was not a lot of people gathered, which I found to be really cool. The less people that are there, the better chances you have at getting pictures made with David!!! As the time went by, more people showed up, but it wasn’t really that bad. While we were standing there, some Cook fans started putting up a HUGE banner that had been signed by hundreds of fans and I noticed that at the very bottom of the banner, David Archuleta had signed it!! I thought that was really cool, so I took a photo of it! We continued to stand there for a while and then Ray came out to inform us that the Idols would not be signing. He said they had a Larry King Live taping and that we were welcome to hang around, but they were definitely not going to be making an appearance. There were lots of disappointed fans and you could just see the sadness in everyone’s faces. John, Valerie, and I decided to go eat and goof off until time to come back for the concert. After we ate, John wanted to go get checked into his hotel, so Valerie and I decided to head to the mall and look around for a while. We both were wearing David Archuleta buttons, although they didn’t have his name on them…just his face. Everyone in the mall appeared to be staring at us as we walked by…LOL. It was very funny. I decided I needed an extra battery for my camera, so we tried to find a store that sold batteries. We ended up asking these two salesmen from Verizon if they knew where the closest Circuit City was and during our conversation, we began talking about David! One of the salesmen said that David was going to have a “killer” album and the other guy didn’t know who David was…so, the salesman mentioned American Idol…which I thought was really cool. We stood there talking to them for about 10 minutes and I felt really proud of David at that point!
Valerie and I made our way to Circuit City and I bought an extra battery and a 4gb memory card for my camera. I was determined to get some good video and photos! As we were standing in line to be checked out, the cashier looked at my button and asked “ Oh, is that your son ”??? I burst out laughing…laughing really hard, in fact…and I told her NO!! She looked at me and said “ Well, he could be ”!! I was laughing even harder at this point and I could tell that she was really embarrassed about what she had just said. She started trying to apologize for her comment, but the more she tried, the worse it sounded…LOL! I finally told her that she should just stop trying to talk…LOL! She said “ Yeah, I seem to be putting my foot in my mouth ”! Valerie and I laughed all the way to the car.
We arrived back at the venue and stood in line to enter the building. As we were standing there, I spotted Daniel walking around in the crowd, so I snapped a few pictures of him! We got inside and found our seats, which were awesome! They were supposed to be row N, but the way the stage was set up…we were on the 4 th row from the stage and with an awesome view! We were all pretty excited! They started playing the Guitar Hero commercial and no one was making any noise, so every time they showed David, I screamed really loud. It was actually quite funny! John just laughed at me…LOL! The concert was awesome…as usual. I won’t go into detail since I just gave my Charlotte report, but I did have something funny to say about yesha. While she was singing, three fans in front of us stood up and I leaned over to John and said…” Look John!! There are Syesha’s only three fans ”!! LOL!! It was pretty darn funny. I guess you had to be there or had to know the story behind that to understand its humor!
I left before David Cook’s set because I wanted to get a good place in the line for the autograph signing. John and I got a really good spot. We stood there for a while and the Idols finally started making their way outside. Syesha came by and I decide I would tell her how much I loved her legs (she has killer muscles in her legs). I asked her if she worked out and she said…” No, I get that from dancing. I have been dancing my entire life ”. She continued to talk to me, which I found really refreshing. She didn’t seem to have that bad attitude. I was thinking she was quite nice. Someone mentioned to her that they liked her shirt and she began talking about it being a gift from one of her fans and how the scarf she was wearing was also a gift. She then showed me one of her bracelets that said “Keep Smiling” and she said that she usually wrote that on her autographs but she had to cut it short recently, so she hadn’t been writing that. I told her how cool I thought it was that they all were so willing to wear the gifts that were given to them and she said “ Oh yeah…if it’s nice ”!! OMG!!! I couldn’t believe she just said that…LOL! I was in shock that she would say such a thing. So, was she saying that she would only wear something if it was really nice? John and I found that to be funny. I couldn’t wait to tell Rickey about my conversation with her!!
David finally made his appearance and he was speeding through the line. There were so many security guards standing around, that it was very hard to get photos. I said hi to Ray and he said hi to me! We waited patiently for David to make his way to us and before we knew it, there he was! He was signing away and even sang a few lyrics…although I cannot tell you what they were. I really wish someone had some video! He was still wearing the necklace I had given him the night before, which made me smile from ear to ear!
Jeff came by and I said hello to him and told him that I was the girl from Charlotte who had given him the personalized hat. He was surprised to see me there! He thanked me again for the hat and he hugged my neck. He was soooo very nice and just had the biggest smile on his face! I didn’t get to meet Lupe, although I did see her and other members of the family standing outside. I got some pictures, but I was pretty far back…so they are not good.
After everyone was finished signing, Ray came walking by me. I decided I was going to ask him for a picture. He was shocked that I would want my picture taken with him, but he was smiling really big! He slid his arm around me and I told him I loved that he was there for David! He said thank you and I thanked him…and he walked off!
I got into my car and drove the 2 ½ hour drive back home. I got home at 2:30 and I was exhausted. I had not had much sleep over the last few days and I honestly don’t think I could have made it three days in a row!
But, now that I am all rested up…I’m ready for another one!
